Faculty perspectives from last summer

In their own words... Find out more about the value of the Summer Faculty Institute from the perspective of nine participants from 2005 in this short video.

One institute: two ways to participate

June 12-16, 2006 There are two ways to participate in the Summer Faculty Institute.
  1. The keynote and general sessions are open to all members of the University community. Please register for the individual sessions you are interested in.
  2. The week-long curriculum includes all of the keynote and general sessions and adds hands-on, project-oriented sessions to apply the material from the keynote and general sessions to your personal teaching objectives. Participants will be introduced to new ideas and models for applying technology to teaching.

The week-long curriculum requires a competitive online application. Faculty who make a commitment to the week-long program (all day, June 12-16) will receive a technology bundle to facilitate continuity of their selected teaching project. The application deadline is May 1 for the week-long program.

One institute: three tracks

June 12-16, 2006 This year's summer faculty institute is being planned around the dual themes of multimedia and assessment. Three tracks are available:
  1. Matching multimedia tools to learning
  2. Motivation and assessment:
  3. Getting started (and keeping going): putting together resources and tools

Preliminary information about each track is available—the specific topics for each track will be determined by the faculty applications.

What's new this year?

New for 2006... Planning for the 2006 Summer Faculty Institute is currently under way. Full program details and the specifications will be coming soon.
  • Participants have a choice between a Windows or a Macintosh technology bundle.
  • Repeat participation is welcome, although participants are only eligible to receive the technology bundle once every three years.

"The Summer Teaching Institute was a great success!!
Thanks to all!!"

"The Summer Faculty Institute was terrific. Now I am much more confident about using technology in the classroom. Two things standout about the program: the kindness and patience of the staff, and--most importantly--their insistence that technology should only be used improve learning."

"Great thanks to everyone for a great institute."

"Please convey to all my gratitude for a truly helpful and inspiring week of information and fun."

"Thanks for a wonderful experience!
Everyone was very helpful, and easy to talk to."
