Google Docs
University of Delaware can adapt the following Google Apps for use in teaching. For an overview, watch this.
- Google Documents are like Microsoft Word files. Students can allow faculty or other students access to their drafts so that comments can be made within the context of the document. Word's track changes feature is not available, although a document history is available. Learn more about documents...
- Google Spreadsheets are similar to Microsoft Excel workbooks and have many of the features you've come to depend upon like formulas, sorting, filters, and charts. Advanced processes like spreadsheets and some dependable perks like autofill don't currently work in the online environment. Learn more about spreadsheets...
- Google Forms allow you to create a new form or convert a spreadsheet to a form, so you can gather data quickly and efficiently. Two examples of Google Forms from this newsletter are the videoconferencing request form and the classroom design interest survey.
- Google Presentations are similar to Microsoft PowerPoint presentations. Students can create, share, edit, and present group projects using any browser from any location. Students can use the same file when they are together in one location and when they are working separately at different locations. Animation and the ability to customize themes are not availablein the Google environment. Learn more about presentations...
- Google Drawings give students the option to express themselves visually by using a canvas to create visual elements. Drawings can be imported into Google Presentations. Learn more about drawings...
- Google Collections use tags to organize project elements (similar to the concept of creating folders). Moreover, a single file can be tagged in many ways: As a "rubric," related to a particular course such as "ENGL208" and as "accrediting materials." If you maintain up-to-date files and tag them with various associations, you'll soon develop an organizational system that serves you well. Learn more about collections...
