Tech Talk Tuesday is proud to present our October session, Purposeful Tech and Learning, where instructors will share from their own teaching how meaningfully integrating the old and new can support student learning. For this session, we welcome Yoel Villahermosa Serrano, College of Arts & Sciences, Rafi Turitz-Sweifach, Lerner College of Business and Economics, and Jon Manon, College of Arts & Sciences, College of Education and Human Development, as they share strategies for implementing technologies into their teaching. Jon Manon served for over thirty years as a mathematics educator at the University of Delaware with dual appointments in the School of Education and the Department of Mathematical Sciences. As Director of the Mathematics and Science Education Resource Center, he developed collaborative projects in professional learning for teachers across all 17 school districts in Delaware. After retiring in 2017, Jon was recruited to teach math courses for students in the Associate in Arts Program, first on the Georgetown campus and then in Wilmington as well. It was during this period, especially in support of remote instruction during the pandemic, that Jon pioneered a range of tech-based interactive techniques to secure student engagement in the mathematics content. Jon currently serves as the President of the Delaware Foundation for Science and Mathematics Instruction.

Yoel Villahermosa Serrano is Assistant Professor of Game Studies and Spanish, and serves as Director and Lead Advisor of the Game Studies Program at the University of Delaware. As both a game and play researcher, his work specializes in Spanish video game studies and contemporary Spanish cultural studies, examining how politics, economics, digital media, and visual culture intersect in these fields. He also explores the educational potential of video games, particularly how they can be integrated into the classroom to foster critical thinking, engagement, and cultural awareness.

Rafi Turitz-Sweifach is a visiting instructor of operations management in the Department of Business Administration. He holds an M.S. in business analytics and information management, an MBA, and has experience teaching management information systems, business analytics, and operations management courses. He has led workshops on effective teaching and AI, and was a member of the AI for Teaching and Learning Working Group. Most importantly, he has been at UD for 8 years in student, staff, and faculty roles!
