UD Capture Classroom Tips
Below are some tips to improve the quality of your UD Capture Classroom recordings.
- Best practices
Best Practices: Make good use of your own videos is a PDF guide that covers video tools available by UDIT, as well as tips and ideas to make the best use of videos in your own course. - No slides?
If you don’t plan to use the video projector, you must still activate the room control touch panel. This will “turn on” the room so the microphones for the recording are active. Touching the panel to dismiss the welcome message is sufficient and does not require the projector to be on. This applies to rooms only with touch panels (similar to an iPad). - Begin on time
Try to begin as close as possible to the start time (use a cell phone clock for the most accurate time). If you start late, say 10 minutes late, the recording will have 10 minutes of unused material before the event actually starts. - Come early
You will need to setup your laptop and make sure it’s projecting properly well before the start time. - Avoid the blank screen
Make sure that you have a title screen of some kind already displaying from a laptop before the start time. This makes sure that the first visuals of the recording are consistent with that day’s lesson. When there are no visuals there will be a blank screen. - Keep awake
Make sure to disable your device’s display sleep and power sleep to prevent the projected image from disappearing. - Stick around
The microphone is located on or near the podium. Make sure the presenters are at the podium as much as possible to create the best audio recording. If the audience ask questions, it’s best to be repeat the question at the front of the room for the recording. - Sound check
You won’t hear anything in the room from the voice tracking microphone. However, there should be wireless microphones available in the room to use should you need it for participants in the room to hear you better. Arrive early to test and call IT University Media Services for assistance using the classroom A/V assistance phone if needed. - The down low
Most anything spoken around the podium, no matter how quiet, will probably be recorded. Keep side conversions away from the podium. - Review your recording
Review your class frequently to check for audio quality (do I need to speak up when I walk around?) and video consistency (is there too much information on my slides, are they easy to read?).
