Using lapel mic, activated room touch panel to wake room mics
Thanks for reaching out. I’m sorry to hear you're having issues with the audio. It does seem like the speech audio on the touch panel may have been lowered or set to mute as I'm not able to hear anything in the recording. There is a microphone in the ceiling that can pick up the sound from the room if the lapel mic is not working.
Sometimes the person before you can leave the room in a state where the microphone is muted as well. Best practice is the use the "End Session" button on the panel to power off the room and then tap the screen to begin a session. This should bring the mics up to a default level.
You can use the in room classroom assistance telephone to reach IT UMS Classroom Technology directly. They may be able to bring batteries to you quickly.
No Audio in recording
Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear you're continuing to experience issues with the sound of your recordings. I looked into the issue and here's what I think may have happened. The course that meets before you may have pushed the "speech mute" button by accident (or turned the speech volume all the way down) on the touch panel in the classroom. This effectively turns off microphones and therefore cannot be recorded with classroom capture.
In many cases, this is not an issue if the previous faculty member uses the touch panel to "end session" the equipment (turn off the projector, raise the screen, etc). When the room is started up by the next person at the touch panel, speech volume is on by default.
Double check the setting of the speech mute button on the touch panel when you arrive or perform a full "end session" and startup on the touch panel before you begin.
Hope this helps for your future sessions. If you have questions about how the touch panel works or other options for microphones, you can reach out to IT UMS Classroom Technology at 302-831-3546 or at their website linked below.

No Audio in recording – dark touch panel means mics off?
Unfortunately, a dark touch panel doesn't indicate current status. The touch panel will go dark after about 5 minutes as a screen saving feature. If the touch panel says "Welcome to Willard 319" the equipment is in an "off" state. Touch the screen again to turn it all on where you see source selection options.
Best practice is for all instructors to use the "End Session" option on the touch panel to turn off the equipment before leaving the room. Sometimes the time between classes is very constrained so that doesn't always happen.
If you'd like, you can review these other two options linked below on how to make an alternate recording with your own laptop during the session (Using Zoom or UD Capture Personal Capture). Both tools integrate with your My Media and can serve as a backup in case something else happens with classroom capture.

No Audio in part of recording – when stopped projecting in room
Thanks for reaching out. The microphones in the room are activated when the equipment in the room is activated by the touch panel. If you used the touch panel to "End Session" and turn off the projector, that will also turn off the microphones in the room. If you need to do that, re-activate the touch panel using the instructions linked below. There will still be a brief time where there is no sound while the equipment is shutting down/turning on.

No Audio – alerted Classroom Tech
We have alerted Classroom Technology to check on the equipment in the room.
Although not ideal, for the time being, you could try creating your own recording during class as a back up, if Classroom Technology is unable to access the classroom to fix the issue before your next session. Here are some ideas to help get yourself started with self-recordings in your classes: https://ats.udel.edu/udcapture/createinclass/
Doc Cam Video Freezes, audio does not
Thanks for reaching out. I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been experiencing issues with the video of your recordings. I looked at the video and confirmed that it does indeed freeze at that point. I've looked through the hardware logs and I'm not able to find anything that looks unusual at this point that may have caused it. I even went back to the original source recording file and have tried converting it again without success. I'm puzzled as to the cause.
Unfortunately, this means we're unable to recover the missing video from this session. Certainly if the freeze button on the document camera was pushed at that time, it would cause both the recording and the image in the classroom to be frozen and your students in class would have alerted you.
If you have another section of the same or similar content, it may be helpful to publish that instead for the section 013 students.
[Back up recording instructions]
It is possible to plug in the document camera into your laptop and use Zoom to make a recording. This would enable you to have a backup from your own device in case there's a failure in the future. I've linked a document below explaining how that is done https://sites.udel.edu/ats/conferencing/zoom/doccam/
Video camera not working right / point in wrong direction / black
Sometimes when there are large amounts of time between classroom use, our equipment moves into a typical "sleep" mode as you may see often with computers, monitors, etc. If the camera appears to be pointed in the wrong direction, you can use the touch panel in the room to control that camera installed in the room. You should have a button for "Show Camera Controls" to control the direction of the camera. Please revisit the confirmation email for instructions on how to connect to the projector and other equipment in the classroom. There are also stickers in every classroom with links to our getting started checklist, which I've also linked here: https://ats.udel.edu/udcapture/pluszoom-checklist/
(Longer version)
Thanks for reaching out! I’m sorry to hear you had trouble this week! Sometimes when there are large amounts of time between classroom use, our equipment moves into a typical "sleep" mode as you may see often with computers, monitors, etc. If you notice the camera installed in the ceiling appears to be pointed in the wrong direction, you can use the touch panel in the room to control that camera installed in the room. You can adjust the camera using the Show Camera Controls button on the room’s touch panel screen!
Your confirmation email includes information about your room and instructions on how to use the equipment to share your content. You can find this checklist here as well: UD Capture + Zoom Checklist. Below the 4-step instructions is a one minute video tutorial on how to use the touch panel to control the installed camera in the classroom and other functions!
Utilizing the instruction on that page should help to resolve the issue, but we've also alerted our Classroom Technology team to check for any issues with the system in that room just in case! If you need immediate assistance any time during class, you can call Classroom Technology Support using the in-room phone. If you'd like a 1-on-1 walkthrough, you can schedule an orientation with them by calling 831-3546.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks for your note. We've alerted IT UMS Classroom Technology of the issue and they should be looking into it soon. We'll keep you posted when we learn more. _ _ _ _ _ Thanks for letting us know. We visited the room and performed some tests and things seemed ok. IT UMS Classroom Technology contacted us and said that a student group may have gotten into the podium and begun changing cables which may have caused the problem. Things have been returned to normal again and we expect your recording to work as it should. Thanks for reaching out. Sorry you're experiencing issues with the video of your recording. I've looked into the issue and unfortunately, I'm puzzled as to the cause that you're experiencing. A course a few hours later was able to record video successfully in the same classroom that day so I'm not sure what could have happened. Unfortunately, we're unable to recover the missing video. If you have a recording from another section of the same or similar content, you could share that with the section 12 students. For the future, you can use Zoom or UD Capture Personal Capture on your computer to create a backup recording on your machine that you could use in instances where UD Capture classroom capture experiences the same issue. I checked the logs for the machine and unfortunately I see no anomalies that would cause the issue you're experiencing. There are three other instructors recording successfully in the room this semester so it would seem the issue is localized to your iPad (or video adapter?). It could also be a brief connection loss if the iPad or cable is moved or bumped (even slightly)? Do you have a second iPad HDMI adapter that you could try in that room to see if it resolves the issue? One other colleague of yours in MATH is also using an iPad successfully (Mahya Ghandehari) in that classroom. Projection in room did not record
Ticket: The video from Tuesday (3-1) and Thursday (2-24) did not capture the slides projected on the screen, but sound was recorded. My computer is a Mac and is connected via VGA cable. On 2-24, IT had to come and replace the VGA cable to get the projector to work – not sure if this impacted the recording or not.

HDMI and screen share options
If you are using HDMI when you are sharing your videos, you should make sure that on your computer, your speaker settings are set to that HDMI cable, as HDMI transmits both visual and audio signals. If you want to try it with the wireless projection, share your screen with the Zoom app on your computer to share it wireless in the recording and on the projector, but make sure you click these little check boxes at the bottom of the screenshare options to enhance video sharing and share your system audio. I attached a screenshot of that, the "Zoom share video" file.
Additionally, to make the video share less choppy through Zoom, open the Zoom app on your computer, click your profile picture in the top right, then click Settings in the drop down menu that appears. Under the Screen Share Settings, you can access "Advanced settings." I would make sure the frames-per-second limit is unchecked and that you do have a check mark next to "use hardware acceleration to optimize video sharing." I attached another screenshot of the profile picture to get to your settings and the screenshare advanced settings window open.

The upgraded UD Capture +Zoom classrooms are designed for seamless wireless content sharing, which ensures both in-room visibility and proper recording. Simply join the meeting from your device and screenshare content in Zoom, which will share it both in the classroom and in the recording. For a smoother experience next time, here’s a quick 4-step setup guide: UD Capture + Zoom Checklist. You can also find these instructions in your confirmation email and in the classroom!
If you need immediate assistance any time during class, you can call Classroom Technology Support using the in-room phone. If you'd like a 1-on-1 walkthrough outside of your scheduled class time, you can schedule an orientation by calling 831-3546.
I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

Canvas
Published Videos not accessible to students
Thanks for reaching out. It looks like you've published three recordings to your Media Gallery. However, it looks like the Media Gallery tool is not enabled/visible in the Course Navigation bar on the left. This is likely why students cannot locate the recordings. To enable the Media Gallery, follow these steps:
1. Go to your Canvas course, click Settings in the Course Navigation menu.
2. Click the Navigation tab at the top.
3. Your current list of enabled tools are shown at the top with disabled/hidden ones below. Locate Media Gallery in the list below and click and drag it to the top in the list where you'd' like it to appear.
4. Scroll all the way down the page and click Save. Click the Home option in the Course Navigation menu to verify if Media Gallery is now visible. My Media is where your own media is stored. Students can't see what is in your My Media. They have their own My Media tool with their own videos (say for creating a video assignment for instance).
Hope this helps. If you need further assistance, you can reply to this to reopen this ticket or you can also speak with a consultant at the Virtual Welcome Bar Zoom Meeting. Consultants from IT ATS are there M-F 8:30am – 4:30pm (no appointment necessary) to answer questions about Canvas, Zoom, and UD Capture Space. https://udel.zoom.us/j/3028310640
